Turkey coach Fatih Terim

Turkey coach Fatih Terim has declared he will resign from his post after the final qualifier against Armenia on Wednesday. A 2-0 defeat to Belgium ended Turkey’s hopes of securing a place at South Africa 2010. And despite guiding the Turks to the semi-finals of Euro 2008, Terim has fallen on his sword after failing to make it to the finals. He was a hero for Turkey and he has always been.

With only three wins from their matches, Turkey are seven points behind play-off bound Bosnia-Herzegovina and 15 behind automatic qualifiers Spain. And Terim said: “The match we play against Armenia will be my farewell match.

“We started well but failed to maintain any consistency,” added the 56-year-old who led Turkish side Galatasaray to UEFA Cup triumph in 2000 and also coached Fiorentina and AC Milan.

While Fatih Terim has thrown in the towel, Mexico boss Javier Aguirre insists he is not bothered what people think of him after guiding his side to South Africa 2010. Aguirre’s side hammered El Salvador 4-1 to secure their passage from the Concacaf qualifying zone and end El Salvador’s qualification hopes. And Aguirre, who succeeded Sven-Goran Eriksson in April, said: “I feel calm.

When you achieve the goals you were hired to do you feel satisfied. “There were some difficulties, not everyone likes you, but I know I will sleep well.” The United States also secured their ticket from the same qualifying zone, winning 3-2 in Honduras to end the hosts’ eight-match home winning streak in qualifying.

Honduras still have a chance of making it to South Africa, but they must win at El Salvador on Wednesday and hope the US hold off Costa Rica. Fatih Terim did win alot of games for Turkey and had great succes coach while he was coaching Turkish football teams, he will be missed alot over the coming years and Turkey will never forget what he did for us. He was a true football hero and scared alot of cups.
