Possesion of fake British Money in Altinkum Didim
The two children of a Nottinghamshire couple who are being held in jail in Turkey are expected to fly home this weekend, relatives have confirmed. Steven and Mandy Bonnington from Hucknall were arrested after claims they had been caught in possession of fake British money. The pair are currently being held in separate Turkish jails.Their children, aged 11 and 15, had been left to live alone until relatives arrived in the country.
One of Mrs Bonnington’s sisters, Angela Needham, said the children would be returning home before Monday.
They are coming home this weekend but we are not saying when. she said. Mr and Mrs Bonnington were with their children in Altinkum, on the Aegean coast, when they were detained. They are expected to appear at court again next week.
Ms Needham said bakery worker Mr Bonnington, 40, may have unknowingly come into possession of the fake notes after making a sale over the internet.
It is believed that the couple have not been formally charged, but were being investigated by police for possession of about £1,000 in fake £20 notes. It is thought they were held after trying to cash £100 at a bureau de change in Altinkum.BBC has reported online.
