Historical Greek village of Yoran

Initial work has begun to transform the historical Greek village of Yoran, situated in the Aegean city of Ayd?n’s in the Didim district, into a tourist destination.“The old wine house in Yoran has been restored and will be used by the Didim Municipality,” said Didim Mayor Mümin Kamac?.

He said there were more than 100 historical houses in the region, and due to fact that they were protected areas, they have not have been restored to date. He said a similar project was also in place to restore historical Kemalpa?a houses in the Söke district and that they planned to turn them into tourist places.

The houses to be restored with the cooperation of public, local administration and Adnan Menderes University will become a sign of hope for the old village’s future, said Kamac?, adding that work had begun in collaboration with Adnan Menderes University Archaeology Department.

Upon the proposal of Professor Serap Yaylal?, a Wandering Scholars House will be established to introduce millet scholarship which refers to the millet system under the Ottoman Empire that guaranteed communal autonomy to non-Muslim ethnic groups

 Approved for the project were an old chapel with a large garden and two buildings. One of the buildings will serve as the Wandering Scholars House; the other will be function as the Didim Municipality building.”
