Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, described (quite amusingly) as a “Hollywood power couple” by various entertainment reporters, are suing a British newspaper regarding the paper’s claims that they were considering splitting up. The alleged split was described as a “multi-million-pound” split, ignoring the fact that Jolie and Pitt very rarely if ever spend pounds on anything.
The report from the News of the World tabloid noted that the two stars visited an attorney in December of last year and had agreed on a deal that would see them dividing their vast array of assets and splitting custody of their ever-growing brood of adopted children.
A statement regarding the report indicated that “The publication of these false allegations is being treated as a serious misuse of private information and accordingly a claim form has been issued in the High Court of Justice in London.” Especially problematic for Pitt and Jolie was the fact that the British paper’s story was subsequently picked up by various international media outlets.
One story noted that Sorrell Trope, a famed U.S. divorce lawyer, was representing the couple. Trope, for his part, denied any professional relationship with Pitt and Jolie, noting, “I have had no contact from Angelina Jolie and/or Brad Pitt. I have never met [them] or had any involvement with either of them.”
Keith Schilling, an attorney for the famous couple, noted that the British newspaper had ignored attempts to resolve the matter out of court and said, “The News of the World has failed to meet our clients’ reasonable demands for a retraction of and apology for these false and intrusive allegations which have now been widely republished by mainstream news outlets.”
